How To Know When One Has Painful Periods Due To An Underlying Disease

In our timid and educational backward tropical environments where every fever is erroneously called malaria fever, so many women suffer from so many deadly urinary tract infections (UTI) without proper investigations and subsequent treatment. People in most cases usually patronise the handy druggist, patent medicine men or suitsayers for immediate solutions.

Major Differences Between Painful Periods Without Any Underlying Disease And Painful Periods Caused By Underlying Disease

Obviously, due to ignorance on the causative organisms and mode of presentations of these diseases, the problems are compounded by these ignorant medical quacks.
Consequently, the usual acute diseases which could have been treated urgently are allowed to go unabated until they become chronic.

Some of these poorly treated diseases usually move from acute to chronic stages and may subsequently involve the womb of the sufferer to cause problems in later life.
Painful monthly periods due to underlying disease is known as secondary dysmenorrhoea. Secondary because it is caused by an underlying disease

The following are things that check out for to know if your painful periods is caused by an underlying disease

1. You will have noticed a recent increase in menstrual flow, to the extent that period which used to last 4 - 5 days now lasts for an upward of 7 - 8 days. Or that you now have to use many sanitary pads to collect the heavy flow

2. If your periods which had for years been painless suddenly become persistently painful, there may be an underlying disease.

3. Also, in most cases, of secondary painful periods, pains usually start about a week to the onset of the period. The pains are felt most in the lower abdomen just immediately above the Mons pubis and also at the waist or otherwise known as backache.

4. Usually, the pain continues throughout the duration of the menstrual flow and even thereafter. The intensity of the pains could increase day by day and may even continue after the menstrual flow.

5. The commonest mode of introducing infection into the uterus which could lead to secondary painful period is by a D&C or abortion done by quacks for the removal of an unwanted pregnancy. An error of treatment may lead to incomplete evacuation of the product of conception during a D&C. These products left in the uterus will continue to bleed until removed.

In conclusion, if you notice some of these symptoms enumerated above, your painful menstrual period is obviously due to an underlying disease. You must consult your doctor immediately.
